The Weber Kracht and Chellew Word of the Month: Thrive

April 7, 2016 By WKCLawBlog

Thrive_silver

Our Word of the Month for April is “thrive.” It’s appropriate for this time of year when, despite the fact that winter seems to want to overstay its welcome, flowers and trees are coming to life. We’re reminded that we too might need to take a moment and adjust our focus. Maybe it’s a need to lift our heads up from our desks and to do lists, our problems and concerns, to look out the window and choose to thrive.

This poem by Tony Hoagland conveys this very well:

The Word

by Tony Hoagland

Down near the bottom
of the crossed-out list
of things you have to do today,

between “green thread”
and “broccoli,” you find
that you have penciled “sunlight.”

Resting on the page, the word
is beautiful. It touches you
as if you had a friend

and sunlight were a present
he had sent from someplace distant
as this morning—to cheer you up,

and to remind you that,
among your duties, pleasure
is a thing

that also needs accomplishing.
Do you remember?
that time and light are kinds

of love, and love
is no less practical
than a coffee grinder

or a safe spare tire?
Tomorrow you may be utterly
without a clue,

but today you get a telegram
from the heart in exile,
proclaiming that the kingdom

still exists,
the king and queen alive,
still speaking to their children,

—to any one among them
who can find the time
to sit out in the sun and listen.

“The Word” is excerpted from Tony Hoaglands collection of works, Sweet Ruin.

What does “thrive” mean for you?

The Weber Kracht and Chellew Word of the Month: Embrace

March 21, 2016 By WKCLawBlog

glassmanquoteOur Word of the Month for March is: Embrace.

Embrace. To “hold (someone) closely in one’s arms, especially as a sign of affection.”

Taking the word’s meaning a bit farther, to embrace is also to “accept or support (a belief, theory, or change) willingly and enthusiastically.”

In today’s world, when we’re faced with the issues and circumstances of life, “embrace” can be the last thing we want to do. Sometimes, however, a small shift in perspective or reaching out to ask for help can be all we need to embrace the challenges we meet.

What does “embrace” mean for you this month?

The Weber Kracht and Chellew Word of the Month: “H.O.D.S.”

September 2, 2015 By WKCLawBlog

HODSimage

As with many routines, the Word of the Month took a break over the summer. Here we are in September, back in the swing of things. Returning to a regular schedule coupled with the shift of seasons also provides a format for realigning our focus. So it makes sense that September’s “Word” of the Month is an acronym: H.O.D.S. Developed by an author unknown to us and standing for Honest – Open – Direct – Specific, it’s the basis for our communication amongst each other here in the office as well as with our clients.

What does operating from a place of being Honest – Open – Direct – Specific look like for you? We’d love for you to share in the comments.

The Weber Kracht and Chellew Word of the Month: Clarity

June 15, 2015 By WKCLawBlog

GlassesPerspective

Throughout the month of June, our team is thinking about our Word of the Month – “Clarity.”

Defined as “the quality of being expressed, remembered, understood, etc., in a very exact way” clarity is a quality essential to every good relationship, whether business or personal. In our daily lives, seeking to be clear about our intent is essential to achieving our goals. It is something we seek every day at Weber Kracht and Chellew.

“Without focusing and getting to clarity you cannot lead. You cannot motivate. You cannot plan. You cannot communicate.” – Bobb Biehl

What does clarity mean to you?

The Weber Kracht and Chellew Word of the Month: Connect

April 7, 2015 By WKCLawBlog

Connect_wordofthemonth_April2015

In our blog about last month’s word, “fascinate“, we touched on how this ability to draw attention can be the first step to meaningful communication. This month’s word, “connect,” takes this notion a step further.

The definitions of “connect” include: “to join, link, or fasten together; unite or bind,” “to establish communication between; put in communication,”  “to cause to be associated, as in a personal or business relationship,” and “to associate mentally or emotionally.”

Connecting is something we strive for as an internal team and also with our clients. We work hard to ensure our clients are heard within the legal system and to do so means we must first connect – truly listen to them and understand their legal needs.

How do you view “connect” in terms of your professional endeavors? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
