The Year in Review at Weber Kracht and Chellew

December 30, 2014 By WKCLawBlog

It’s hard to believe it’s time to say goodbye to 2014.

This year we were proud to serve our community in a number of ways: a Back to School supply drive, sponsoring the Perkasie FallFest 5K, providing pro bono services, helping to present a Child ID event and bringing smiles – and Santa Claus – to the residents of the Belle Haven Nursing Home.

Our attorneys, always eager to help, shared their expertise in the areas of Constitutional law, real estate, non-profits, insurance, estate planning and small business counseling.

We hope you are looking toward 2015 with anticipation and wish you all the best in the coming New Year.

Giving Back: Walking the Talk

December 2, 2014 By WKCLawBlog

WeBelieveinMakingDifference_blackboard

Today is #GivingTuesday. The answer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it’s a day for non-profits to remind us that this season of giving is more than a consumer exercise. We hope it helps us to remember the organizations that contribute to our communities throughout the year. It’s a standard our firm works to live up to through a variety of community-focused efforts and involvement. Perhaps the most tangible way we give back is through our pro bono services. Dean Arthur shares his experience:

I believe it is every attorneys’ obligation to give back to the community in which they live and practice. One of the ways I do this is providing pro bono legal services. I represent parties in Protection from Abuse actions without charge, doing so multiple times throughout the year. The clients are involved in very frightening and confusing situations and truly appreciate the assistance.

I was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bucks County Legal Aid Society, serving as its president when it was required by federal funders to merge into what is now Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania (LASP), serving the four counties surrounding Philadelphia. I am also on the Board of LASP, serving as its president from 2003 through 2005.

I believe my involvement with this community service provides me with satisfaction that matches the assistance given to those in need.

This Week at Weber Kracht and Chellew | 11.8.14

November 7, 2014 By WKCLawBlog

Weekly Wrap-up image

We hope you’ve had a terrific week. Grab a mug of your favorite morning pick-me-up and catch up with all things Weber Kracht and Chellew.

First, we wanted to say yet again how incredibly proud we are of our firm administrator, Karen Chellew, for running a strong campaign to become the Pennsylvania state representative of the 145th district. Although the results were not in her favor, Karen and her team inspired many to focus on #communitynotpolitics.

A new series was launched within our blog, The Weber Kracht and Chellew Difference. Throughout this series, our attorneys will share firsthand experiences with our clients. This week, Abigail Fillman shares how going the extra mile with a client made all the difference in the client’s life.

#TBT (Throwback Thursday) took us back to Race Judicata. Held earlier this year. Race Judicata is organized by the the Bucks County Bar Association and raised funds for Legal Aid of Southeastern PA, an organization that provides free legal aid to local low-income and vulnerable residents.

Save the date for our  Child ID event on Saturday, November 29. We’re teaming up with the Quakertown Rotary Habitat 5K & Kids’ Fun Run. The Child ID is FREE of charge for all children participating in the Kids’ Fun Run. The Bucks County Sheriff”s Department will be administering the IDs inside the Quakertown United Methodist Church from 8am-12Noon. Learn more about the 5K and Kids’ Fun Run here and also here.

Meet the Attorneys: Dean Arthur

October 7, 2014 By WKCLawBlog

DeanArthur

Dean Arthur is one of the most respected and well-known lawyers in Bucks County. A former president of the Bucks County Bar Association, Dean is widely known among his colleagues and clients alike for his knowledge of the judicial system, his practical advice and his ability to assist clients in an outstanding and thorough manner.

During the past 30 years, Dean has tried over 300 cases, primarily involving insurance defense and criminal defense matters. As a result, he is practiced at looking at all of his clients’ options in a case and then arriving at the proper strategy to obtain the best result possible, in the most cost-effective way. Clients appreciate Dean’s “take charge” attitude of their case which allows them to go on with their day-to-day business while the matter proceeds, knowing Dean will be constantly providing them with helpful status reports if desired.

Throughout his career and even dating back to law school, Dean has been passionate in his work to deliver pro bono legal services to those unable to afford proper representation. He has been on the Board of Directors of Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania since 2001 and served as its President from 2003-2005. The stated mission of Legal Aid is to “provide quality legal representation to low-income and vulnerable people in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery County.” Dean has twice been recognized statewide for his tireless pro bono efforts, receiving the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award in both 2001 and 2011 and the Bucks County Bar Association’s Arthur B. Walsh Jr. Pro Bono Award (2001).

Dean’s ties to Pennsylvania run deep. Immediately upon graduating from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis in 1979, Dean returned to Pennsylvania to serve as a Deputy Attorney General in the Pa. Attorney General’s Office, primarily handling tax litigation. Thereafter, he spent 3 ½ years in the Bucks County Public Defender’s Office learning the criminal justice system inside and out before going into private practice. A graduate of Haverford College (B.A. 1974), Dean spent two years teaching history at George School before going to law school.
