One of our favorite team traditions is to spend an evening watching another great team, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs! We braved the chilly spring weather, enjoying a terrific time at the ballpark as the Iron Pigs scored an amazing 13 runs to win their game vs. Louisville, 13-1.
Don’t Be Afraid of Your Attorney

If you look hard enough at any situation, you can find a solution. That is one of my guiding principles as a person and as I act on a client’s behalf as legal counsel.
I recently shared this during a talk at the Pennridge Business Network, advising them — and you — “Don’t be afraid of your attorney.” I and my colleagues here at Weber Kracht and Chellew are here to act as your advocate. We know that a well-counseled client is protected in ways he or she may not even realize.

2017 Five Alarm 5K Raises $6,000 for Perkasie Volunteer Fire Company and Firefighter Scholarships
The results are in from this year’s Five Alarm 5K and Two-Mile Fun Run! Thanks to the efforts of 72 runners, 28 business sponsors, 26 raffle prize donors, and many volunteers, $6,000.00 was raised as a result of the November 4 event.
We recently had the pleasure of joining our event co-presenters — Bucks County Community College’s Upper Bucks Campus and Sisters U — to present the proceeds. The Perkasie Volunteer Fire Company received $5,400.00, which they will use to buy accessories for the BullEx BullsEye portable fire extinguisher training unit they purchased with the 2016 Five Alarm 5K proceeds. The Bucks County Community College Foundation received $600.00 for firefighter scholarships.
“We’re grateful for the initiative and generosity of the presenting organizations,” said Brian Irvin, Perkasie Fire Company president. “This is the second year that they’ve come to us with the desire to do something for the fire company. These funds will definitely be put to good use.”
The Five Alarm 5K is a timed race, with timing services provided by Pretzel City Sports. Stephanie Savastano repeated her win in the Women’s category with a time of 20:39. Ethan Saville’s run time of 17:08 earned the overall top spot in the Men’s category.
Face Your F.E.A.R.
Attorney Rick Howard recently participated in the “Where Are You Taking Your Business” seminar presented by Univest and the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce.
During his portion of this breakfast program, Rick spoke to the choice presented by “F.E.A.R.” Business owners are faced with a choice to Forget Everything and Run or Face Everything and Rise. It’s important to face business fears and concerns head-on before they grow into larger problems.
Proactive vs. Reactive
Current events have put cybersecurity on the minds of many business owners and consumers alike. A KPMG survey showed that only 55% of businesses had spent capital on cybersecurity. Why? There are likely many reasons. Perhaps companies think it’s too costly to engage that level of protection, or perhaps business owners think it could never happen to them.
Consider the ramifications of not facing a business challenge while it’s still a relatively small, manageable problem. The recent data breach at Yahoo, for instance, which occurred after the announcement that Verizon would be buying the company. Because of the unknown extent of the breach and its lawsuits, Yahoo’s purchase price was devalued to $350 million less than the original agreement.
Face Everything and Rise
We highly encourage any large or small business owner to not neglect your technological infrastructure and your legal rights and responsibilities. Embrace the technology and the responsibility. Embrace the burdens and the benefits. Collaborate with people you know and trust. All the while staying true to who you are as a business person and why you started your business in the first place.
Think about the potential issues and problems that could come your way as a business owner, and choose to face everything and rise. There are good people out there to help you along the way.
As an attorney, my mission is to troubleshoot and find solutions to a client’s legal problem. It’s critical to pay attention and look at every aspect of a situation. We take pride in helping our clients find win-win situations.
We are here to be of service as you take your business to the next level and prepare for your future and would be happy to meet with you and discuss your concerns. Contact us today.

Attorney Rick Howard Discusses the Equifax Breach and Changes to Pennsylvania Family Law on WFYL’s “It’s a New Day”
Attorney Rick Howard recently appeared on WFYL 1180AM to discuss the recent Equifax breach and inform their listeners about recent changes to Family Law in Pennsylvania.
Equifax Data Breach
Nearly half of the U.S. population is affected by this data breach. So, what should you do to protect yourself?
- Check your credit reports for suspicious activity.
- Freeze your credit. This does not prevent you from using your credit. What it does is restricts others from opening new accounts in your name.
- Consult this article from Consumer Reports, which presents more ways to protect your online identity.
Equifax is not currently charging a fee to put a credit freeze in place.
Pennsylvania Family Law: New Developments
Rick also covered new updates to Family Law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:
- Revised Child Support Guidelines
- Updates on Grandparent Custody Rights
- Changes in Divorce Law
Listen to Rick’s appearance here.
We are glad to discuss your concerns. Contact us today to see if we might be of service to you.
