Face Your F.E.A.R.

November 27, 2017 By WKC Law

face everything and rise

Attorney Rick Howard recently participated in the “Where Are You Taking Your Business” seminar presented by Univest and the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce.

During his portion of this breakfast program, Rick spoke to the choice presented by “F.E.A.R.” Business owners are faced with a choice to Forget Everything and Run or Face Everything and Rise. It’s important to face business fears and concerns head-on before they grow into larger problems.

Proactive vs. Reactive

Current events have put cybersecurity on the minds of many business owners and consumers alike. A KPMG survey showed that only 55% of businesses had spent capital on cybersecurity. Why? There are likely many reasons. Perhaps companies think it’s too costly to engage that level of protection, or perhaps business owners think it could never happen to them.

Consider the ramifications of not facing a business challenge while it’s still a relatively small, manageable problem. The recent data breach at Yahoo, for instance, which occurred after the announcement that Verizon would be buying the company. Because of the unknown extent of the breach and its lawsuits, Yahoo’s purchase price was devalued to $350 million less than the original agreement.

Face Everything and Rise

Rick Howard IVCC TalkWe highly encourage any large or small business owner to not neglect your technological infrastructure and your legal rights and responsibilities. Embrace the technology and the responsibility. Embrace the burdens and the benefits. Collaborate with people you know and trust. All the while staying true to who you are as a business person and why you started your business in the first place.

Think about the potential issues and problems that could come your way as a business owner, and choose to face everything and rise. There are good people out there to help you along the way.

Attorney Rick Howard Discusses the Equifax Breach and Changes to Pennsylvania Family Law on WFYL’s “It’s a New Day”

October 12, 2017 By WKC Law

Attorney Rick HowardAttorney Rick Howard recently appeared on WFYL 1180AM to discuss the recent Equifax breach and inform their listeners about recent changes to Family Law in Pennsylvania.

Equifax Data Breach

Nearly half of the U.S. population is affected by this data breach. So, what should you do to protect yourself?

  • Check your credit reports for suspicious activity.
  • Freeze your credit. This does not prevent you from using your credit. What it does is restricts others from opening new accounts in your name.
  • Consult this article from Consumer Reports, which presents more ways to protect your online identity.

Equifax is not currently charging a fee to put a credit freeze in place.

Pennsylvania Family Law: New Developments

Rick also covered new updates to Family Law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:

  • Revised Child Support Guidelines
  • Updates on Grandparent Custody Rights
  • Changes in Divorce Law

Listen to Rick’s appearance here.

We are glad to discuss your concerns. Contact us today to see if we might be of service to you.

A Little Creative Thinking Goes a Long Way

January 17, 2017 By WKCLawBlog

Sometimes a situation appears cut and dry, with no favorable outcome for the client. Here at Weber Kracht and Chellew, we make it our practice to look past the initial presumptions in a matter to be certain before presenting a client with disappointing news. It might not seem so, but the practice of law is a creative problem-solving process.

As internationally-known author and advisor on education and creativity, Sir Kenneth Robinson describes it: creativity is “the process of having original ideas that have value…putting your imagination to work.” Taking the time to consider all the options, to think creatively, can bring important factors to mind.

We did just that with a recent case where the client’s mother, a senior woman living in a nursing home, was facing suit following an altercation with a caregiver. This incident was highly atypical but we put our skills to work, asking questions about her time at the nursing home, when had she entered the home? Did she retain ownership of her residence? Could it be possible that she still had homeowners’ insurance?  Yes, indeed, and although the process was not easy, we were able to procure cooperation from her insurance carrier, who ultimately chose to defend and indemnify.

Some creative problem-solving led to a positive outcome for this client in this seemingly intractable case.

So, if you are ever faced with a seemingly intractable legal problem, please contact us. We believe that if you look hard enough at most any problem, you can find a solution. At Weber Kracht & Chellew, we focus on solutions!
